good for him

has a running back behind him, an O-line in front of him and an offense that limits turnovers

great college QB and a better young man

everyone in Nebraska is rooting for him

your voodoo magic will not work!

in all seriousness I think Penn State has a great shot. They play defense and can run the ball now. That keeps you in every game. Except when you're playing Ohio State and they can drop 60.

But I honestly think Penn State would have an even better shot if they had started Drew Allar over Clifford to start the year. I think they are making the same mistake that Michigan made last year not just giving JJ the job over Cade and letting him run with it. Allar was a 5* QB for a reason- dude has serious talent. Clifford = Cade. JAG. If you want to be a big boy in CFB these days you need an elite QB like Clemson had with Watson/Lawerence, like Ohio State has/had with Fields and now Stroud, like BAMA has had with Tua and Bryce. UGA last year with Bennett was an anomaly- they just happened to have maybe the best defense college football has seen in the last 25 years or more- and Bennett went off in the playoffs. They look like they've come back down to earth this year though without that incredible defense and Bennett is looking more like who he really is.
Definitely agree.  It might have been "worse" for this year, but would have pay dividends (I hope) next year.

Allar was QB of my HS. He's been fun to watch, wish he had chosen to compete for NC's in Columbus instead of trying to be a spoiler as a Nittany Lion.

Here's ESPiN's Ranking
https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr/_/group/5
Stroud at 94.8 QBR is insane. He's playing at a super high level. JJ #2 at 82.1, not bad JJ, not bad at all.

yeah no shit. just pointing it out as it's relevant to this match-up, no?

SP+, Advanced Stats, and CFB Nerds computer model all seem to heavily favor Michigan. As does Vegas, as the line opened with Michigan as a TD favorite. Translation: no excuse to lose this one at home as a favorite- this is a must win for Jeem. But hey that's why they play the games. Any Given Saturday, as they say.
I like College Football Nerds, watched their preview last night.

The most interesting part of this game to me is that it will be BY FAR the best opponent that either has faced. Per Sagrin Michigan is #5 and Penn State is #15. Here are the teams they have played:
  • 28 PU, PSU
  • 33 Iowa, M
  • 37 UMD, M
  • 55 Auburn, PSU
  • 87 IU, M
  • 101 CMU, PSU
  • 103 NU, PSU
  • 119 OhioU, PSU
  • 136 CoSt, M
  • 150 UCONN, M
  • 166 Hawaii, M
Suffice to say that neither has faced anything like the quality of opposition they are about to see (not picking on them, tOSU hasn't really either) so I want to see how they respond when the guys on the other sideline can actually punch back.

yeah, honestly I feel like most coaches are way too conservative some times. I feel like if you have a true freshman that is neck and neck with the upperclassmen- I'm ALWAYS playing the true freshman. You don't get better at football sitting on the sidelines. And if a true freshman is pushing an upperclassmen to the brink- well that says that upperclassmen probably just isn't that good.

I mean all of last fall camp as a true frosh JJ was splitting #1 reps in practice with Cade- Cade won the job and then JJ was barely getting any reps with the #1's in practices during the season and he barely played in the games- they had packages here and there for him- but that's it- he didn't get much playing time. That's A TON of opportunity wasted for those coaches to help him to get better in practice with the #1's and more importantly to get better on the field in the games and learning how to play the position in the games in real time. Fast forward to this year and JJ missed all of spring practice with a shoulder injury and he split #1 reps in fall camp AGAIN with Cade in a position battle. That's a BUNCH of time wasted with not letting JJ build chemistry with his WRs in practice. And it takes time to build that chemistry- doesn't happen overnight.

This is serious malfeasance imo on the part of Harbaugh. Just one of many reasons I don't like that guy. JJ would be A LOT further ahead right now if he was getting all the #1 reps in practice all fall camp last year and this year and in practice during last season and more importantly getting live action experience in the games.

Cade is what he is and always will be. Ditto Clifford. JAG. Guys like JJ/Allar have 1st round NFL potential. As a coach you need to unlock and unleash that potential- not put it in a box on the sidelines to play an inferior talented upperclassmen just bc you're afraid of failure with a rookie true frosh. Franklin/PSU making same mistakes with Allar that Harb/Mich made last year with JJ imo.

yeah he's super talented, big dude with a big arm. can you blame him though, OSU QB room is loaded lol. He probably figured he'd be able to start at PSU right away. I think he'll eventually be starting there at PSU by the end of the year.

I agree. Neither team has really played much of a slate yet. Should be a really good game!

another really good College Football Podcast, The Late Kick with Josh Pate. Pate has Michigan winning but Penn State covering. His producer- a Penn State slappy- has Penn State winning by 2 TD's.

Pate brought up some really interesting history, not sure that history matters much in these games but it is interesting. Last time Penn State went on the road and got a top 5 win was in 1994 vs.....Michigan. Last two times Franklin went into The Big House he lost 49-10 (2016) and 42-7 (2018). And those weren't like awful or bad Penn State teams either. Penn State was the B1G champ in 2016 and finished in the final rankings at #5 and Penn State finished the year ranked #17 in the top 25 in 2018.

Pate also brought up an interesting stat, when Sean Clifford attempts 35 or more passes in a game Penn State is 1-5. Key to this game should be for Michigan to try to get a lead fast and try to suffocate the Penn State run game and make Clifford throw it 35+ a game. Easier said then done- but that should be the game plan....make Clifford throw it a lot.
