The vols might make a bowl game after that awful 0-2 start.

With the close win yesterday; a bowl is looking pretty good. They need a bowl.

It also looks like Bama may back into the playoff once again by playing one of the weakest schedules in CFB, and not winning their conference or division. Saban will start his campaign. They lost to the only good team on their schedule. Unless you count Auburn.

Their SOS is not much different from OSU's, or Clemson's.

Clemson is weak, but Phil Steele had OSU at 17 and AL at 44 at the beginning of the season. AL's is the lowest in the SEC.

IF OSU or Clemson loses a game and doesn't make it to their conference championship, can they still make the playoff? That is why AL is different.

My bet for the final four are just that:

LSU
Alabama
Clemson
OSU

Likely the case.
Bama plays one top 10 team, gets beat, doesn't win their SEC Division, much less the Conference and they get to the playoffs.

Can't believe the other conferences take this without a fight.

Even if LSU slips up and loses a game ,Bama doesn't make SECC game due to the tie breaker.
I think Bama's SOS will do them in.
In addition....Bama will get no sympathy votes....everyone is tired of Bama in the playoffs

I am so sick of Bama, but based on history I think they get in unless they lose to Auburn.

i've got a confession to make...

i hate bama, but... i've always had deep respect and regard for what they've done down there.... until this season.

the refs gave them the tennessee game.  even LSU fans on twitter are saying "UT exposed Bama, we followed their lead" which is astounding to say.  again, that is one of the worst called games i've ever seen and i've seen a few.  it made me mad as hell seeing those boys play balls out just to watch the zebras take every advantage they fought for and then camera pan to saban and seeing his smug ass little face... and just wanting to slap the piss out of it.

bama ain't all that... even with a 5 star studded roster, they are about to tip over hide and watch.  this season is their pride before the fall season.  i wonder if saban senses that too, and leaves in next couple years?

after seeing that game- i went and watched other games with them, and they're similar- refs all in.  bama playing a different rule book and the ever present smug saban.  don't get me wrong, they earned where they are- but.... stealing the efforts of other teams is bull shit and not forgivable.

Got to agree with you Drew. The SEC has always protected the top teams, but they go above and beyond for Bama.
The refs were not going to allow a lowly TN team to defeat Bama; no way. It’s not the number of penalties, it’s when they are called and in what situations. Generally the refs don’t allow Bama to get behind, so they don’t press. Early big plays by opponents are reversed by penalty.
TN imposed their will on Bama at times during the game, which really surprised me. Bama’s D is not the typical Bama defense this year. They are not good.
Even some of my AL friends agree that Bama is being protected and they don’t even like it.
It’s not good for the Conference and it needs to stop. Move the office out of Bham and get rid of Shaw!
If they sneak into the playoff again…..

I know Bama has a chance at the playoffs, but it's not a great one this year.  They have a fairly weak slate for one thing, Duke as OOC opponent.  The best they can do is 11-1 (barring a weird upset twice by LSU).  Quite a few teams in other conferences appear primed to be 12-1 or better.  They would perhaps slide in over 11-2 conference champions, as they did last time, but not 12-1 CG winners.

Clemson is unlikely to lose.  I think OSU can beat PSU and that gets them to Indy where they would face an out manned team from the west even if they lose at Michigan.  Clemson, well, you know.  LSU is likely in.  Then you have Oklahoma (Baylor?) and the two Pac teams, one of which is likely to be 12-1.

Weird things can happen and often do.
