Alexandria
« Reply #99 on: June 12, 2020, 01:02:43 PM »

Tomorrow, the Alexandria City Council will consider banning firearms in certain public locations. Second Amendment supporters are encouraged to attend this meeting remotely, which will be conducted by video conference starting 6PM, to OPPOSE File 20-0902. Click here for information on how to attend this meeting remotely and make your voice heard.
For decades, Virginia’s strong preemption statute has prohibited localities from passing their own gun control ordinances. This not only prevents a confusing patchwork of laws, but also ensures that Second Amendment rights are equally protected across the whole Commonwealth. Unfortunately, the anti-gun majority in the General Assembly and Governor Ralph Northam eroded those protections by passing Senate Bill 35 into law. With the July 1st effective date nearing, Alexandria is eagerly preparing its own gun control agenda.
File 20-0902 creates “gun-free zones” where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless while criminals ignore such arbitrary boundaries. It prohibits firearms in public buildings and parks as well as on public streets where certain events are occurring. Violations will be a Class 1 misdemeanor. This meeting is the first of a two-step process. Should File 20-0902 pass tomorrow, it will receive a second hearing for enactment at the June 20th City Council meeting.

NY Store Clerk Arrested For Shooting Knife-Wielding Robber With
« Reply #100 on: June 13, 2020, 11:04:13 AM »
Unlicensed Gun

An employee at a Brooklyn, NY grocery store  has been arrested after using an unlicensed gun to shoot a man who was holding up a the store with a knife on Monday night.

Local news reported that just after 11:00pm, the suspect entered the Rose Family Grocery Store holding a knife and demanding money.  The clerk argued with the robber, who then threatened the clerk with a knife.
That’s when the clerk pulled out his gun and shot the alleged robber, Edwin Candelario, 25, several times.

The clerk called the police and an ambulance rushed Candelario to the hospital.  He was later pronounced dead.

Now the clerk, who police have not yet identified, is under arrest.  According to reports he “was not licensed to have the gun” and that’s why he’s been arrested.

Meanwhile, police have video of the alleged robber waving a knife around.  Initially, Edwin Candelario’s family claimed that he had been wrongly attacked and was only in the building to get some keys he had left behind earlier in the day.

Later, after the footage verified the clerk’s version of events, they admitted that Candelario had been drinking.

Meanwhile, the clerk sits in jail, charged with criminal possession of a firearm.

These Gun Laws Are Criminal

New York is notorious for terrible gun laws and here is just one more example!  This guy was being threatened by a –likely intoxicated– man with a knife.  The footage backs up his story.
But instead of being at home with his family tonight, he’s sitting in a jail cell because he didn’t pay a fee and file a form.

But then it’s not all bad!  If he hadn’t had that gun, he could be laying now.

Gun control laws only give the illusion of safety to scared, weak people.  They do nothing to stop crime, and they don’t make anybody safer.  And in this case, they’re doing real harm to the true victim.

NASCAR rejects advertising from gun companies, causing fans to
« Reply #101 on: June 13, 2020, 05:35:45 PM »
question its 2nd Amendment stance

NASCAR has reportedly been denying firearm companies the ability to advertise on their programming this summer as part of a “gradual shift” in their position on guns.
“They’ve got the drivers shooting off blanks in the winner’s circle. It doesn’t make any sense,” said David Dolbee, general manager of K-Var Corp., whose company was denied an advertisement featuring multiple gun-related products, including an AK-47.
Fans told CNN that gun enthusiasts and NASCAR fans typically overlap, and now that the company appears to have denied ads with little direct explanation, many are questioning whether the stock-car racing organization still supports the Second Amendment.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported that after companies submitted their advertisements, they were told third-party advertising vendor, National Event Publications, because their ads showed “assault-style rifles/sniper rifles.”

“We just heard from NASCAR on a number of gun-related ads and unfortunately, due to a gradual shift in NASCAR’s position on guns, these ads must be edited/changed — especially those that are depicted as assault-style rifles/sniper rifles. NASCAR is still open to some of the less controversial gun accessories, concealed carry, or classes.”

“This is a colossal mistake,” Mr. Dolbee said. “Do they not understand their own base? They are a sporting organization trying to take sides on a political issue. That never goes well for any company.”
Ed Newman, a founder of firearms manufacturer Dark Storm Industries in New York, said they also received a similar rejection that seemed “like a pretty rapid and dramatic shift.”
“We have seen a significant response on social media with the majority of NASCAR fans expressing their disapproval of this shift in policy,” he said.
In an online post, the National Rifle Association slammed NASCAR for banning “America’s Rifle” from their programming.
“It is not clear if NASCAR is now taking an official position in opposition to semi-automatic rifles —with the AR-15 variants often referred to as America’s Rifle — and bolt action rifles,” they said.
“What does seem clear, however, is that NASCAR doesn’t want to see such things advertised in its official publication in the future: a decision that could easily alienate a great many of its most ardent fans,” the NRA added.
NASCAR is still accepting advertising with Gander Outdoors and Bass Pro Shops, two sporting goods chains which also sell guns.
The organization’s decision comes as multiple businesses have re-evaluated their stance on firearms as calls for gun control continue to get louder. NASCAR did not immediately respond to a request by The Washington Times for comment.
CEOs from 145 businesses wrote a joint letter Thursday calling for Congress to take action on gun violence for the safety of their customers and employees.
After a mass shooting in one of their El Paso stores left 22 people dead, Walmart announced they would stop selling handguns and restocking ammunition. They also requested customers discontinue open carrying in their store regardless of state laws.
In February 2018, Dick’s Sporting Goods discontinued their sales of semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines in response to the Parkland school shooting and are considering a full ban on all firearms.

Biden: There Are So Many Reasons For More Gun Control in America

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Friday called for action to combat gun violence while marking the fourth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla.
“Sadly, all these years later, terrorism, mass shootings, and hate crimes continue to rip apart our American communities,” Biden said in a statement on Friday.

“Our places of worship have been attacked, Hispanics have been targeted in places like El Paso, the death toll from mass shootings continues to mount, and LGBTQ+ people, particularly transgender women of color, are disproportionately targeted by violence,” he added.

Pelosi renews gun control push
« Reply #103 on: June 16, 2020, 03:39:14 PM »
After weeks of focusing on a call for police reform, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., renewed her push for gun control Friday — the four-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Fla.
She noted that the House passed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and the Enhanced Background Checks Act to ensure universal background scrutiny, but the Senate has not yet taken the bills up for a vote.

On June 12, 2016, a gunman opened fire on an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 and injuring 53 others. It was the deadliest mass shooting in America by a single gunman to date.

“The men and women murdered at Pulse were there to enjoy an evening of music, dancing and celebration in a place of safety and solidarity; they had the right to live free from the fear of gun violence and hate,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Leader McConnell must listen to the will of the American people, end his partisan obstruction and finally bring H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 up for a vote.”

PELOSI COULD HIDE CONFEDERATE STATUES AT CAPITOL

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Friday also reiterated his call for gun control.

“Sadly, all these years later, terrorism, mass shootings, and hate crimes continue to rip apart our American communities,” the former vice president said in a statement. “Our places of worship have been attacked, Hispanics have been targeted in places like El Paso, the death toll from mass shootings continues to mount, and LGBTQ+ people, particularly transgender women of color, are disproportionately targeted by violence.”

“The inaction of Republican lawmakers to address the scourge of gun violence in America is unacceptable, and Jill and I stand with the survivors of mass shootings and all the family members of victims to support the #HonorThemWithAction campaign,” Biden added.

The gun control debate has taken the back burner until today as House Democrats, led by Pelosi, have spent the weeks since the May 25 death of George Floyd pushing for police reform, this week introducing the “Justice in Policing Act.” The legislation would ban chokeholds, make it easier for civilians to sue police for misconduct, create a national database of police misconduct and change use-of-force standards.

PELOSI PLEDGES POLICE REFORM TO GEORGE FLOYD'S BROTHER: 'IT WILL BE PASSED'

But the push to “Defund the Police” by progressive advocates has left many feeling more of a need to assert their Second Amendment right.

Troy Slaten, a Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney, warned that the push "has the potential for a flurry of dangerous unintended consequences like a rise in private militias, private security cooperatives and vigilantism."

"If people don't have police to rely on, they will take the protection of their family and property into their own untrained hands with potentially deadly consequences," Slaten said. "If we combine strict gun control laws with no community policing to respond to calls for service, it would appear to be a recipe for an explosion in crime."

First Virginia, Now Arizona? Bloomberg’s Anti-Gun Organizations Target
« Reply #104 on: June 19, 2020, 04:13:17 PM »
Az.

Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety doesn’t hide their agenda: they want to flip every state blue through strategic replacement of key legislators.

It worked in Virginia, where they picked off the weakest Republicans and poured money into their Democrat opponent’s campaign fund.  And now they’re going to try to do the same thing in Arizona.

Bloomberg’s organization is spending $5 million dollars in the state — double what they spent in Virginia.  The money will fund something they’re calling “Gun Sense Majority: Arizona.”

Everytown’s Charlie Kelly said, “We see Arizona as one of the most important battlegrounds for gun safety in the country.”

Some of the money will go to helping Presidential Candidate Joe Biden and Democrat Senate Candidate Mark Kelly.  Kelly is the husband of former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords.

A Winning Strategy
But they won’t stop with the big races.  No, Everytown’s latest worked in Virginia so they’re trying it all over the country.

They don’t attack the biggest, strongest Republican in the House or Senate and try to take them down in a head-to-head conflict.  No, they find the weakest Republicans in the most contested districts.

After all, who cares if you don’t take out the biggest or most pro-gun legislator if you flip the majority in your favor and leave the pro-gun camp in the minority?

Why does this work?  Because those weakest Republicans are often the most sold-out.  They don’t stand for anything, so there’s hardly any difference to the voters between them and a Democrat challenger.  Principled pro-gun candidates get their voters to stand with them.  But cowards, sellouts, and limp-wristed RINOS don’t inspire anybody to follow them.

Everytown is doing this in Texas, Arizona, and have admitted they’re trying the same thing in Minnesota, Ohio,  Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Bad News For Gun Owners
There another reason that Everytown has chosen Arizona: their state is already heavily divided, politically. We wrote about this earlier this year, when Everytown first announced they were spending $60 million dollars on the 2020 election.

The Arizona House is made up of 60 legislators.  Currently, it’s 31 Republicans and 29 Democrats.  The Senate is made up of 30 senators.  There are 17 Republicans and 13 Democrats.

Those margins aren’t good.  Arizona gun owners, you had better fight like your gun rights depend on it this election!  Otherwise,  there’s no doubt you’re going to lose them like Virginia has!

Fact Checking Joe Biden On Guns
« Reply #105 on: June 20, 2020, 04:59:27 PM »
In an interview with Wired, Joe Biden, the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for president, was asked for his “stance on gun control.”
Biden summed up what he’d like to do with your Second Amendment rights this way:
“Number one: Assault weapons are weapons of death. They have no rationale for being owned by individuals on the street. They should be outlawed. They were eliminated. They came back—we had a 10-year elimination of them. From the very beginning you weren’t allowed to have certain weapons. You weren’t allowed to own a cannon during the Revolutionary War as an individual. Anybody think you should be able to go out and have a machine gun these days? And the answer is no, we have a rational policy. No amendment to the Constitution is absolute.
Secondly, everyone should have a universal background in order to determine whether they are capable of owning a weapon, whether they should own a weapon.”
Okay, there’s a lot here to unpack.
First of all, semi-automatic firearms are the most commonly sold firearms today. This design is a 19th century invention. The AR-15-type rifles Biden is likely referring to as “assault weapons” have been sold to the American public since 1963, when the U.S. military began to adopt the similar-looking, but fundamentally different, M16. FBI crime statistics show, year after year, that rifles of any type are used in less than 3% of homicides; semi-automatic rifles are a fraction of that. And these guns were not “eliminated” by the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban; there was, rather, a ban on the manufacture and sale of new firearms that were deemed “assault weapons” under the law.  The millions of guns that already lawfully existed remained lawful to own and transfer.
As far as a “rationale” for citizens owning these firearms go, semi-automatic rifles are very popular and effective for home-defense. Hunters also commonly use these firearms. They are also used by many who enjoy the shooting sports. They are commonly owned and used and have been for generations.
Then again, we do have a Bill of Rights, not a Bill of Rationalizations.
Biden’s odd mention of an alleged ban on the private ownership of cannons during the Revolutionary War is an attempt to use an extreme example in order to concoct a rationale to ban a commonly owned and long-legally sold firearm type—others have used this fallacious argument by stating that citizens should not be able to purchase cruise missiles.
By the way, Biden is wrong about cannons during the American Revolution, as Historynet.com reports: “And as tensions between the mother country and the colonies had grown, Britain had banned manufacture of artillery in America, declaring it both illegal and disloyal to cast guns. Nonetheless, with the outbreak of hostilities, the Continental Congress and the governing bodies of the colonies called upon America’s ironmasters to manufacture cannons—and to do so with all haste. At the risk of their lives and property, many complied.”
So, the ban was from the British in order to disarm Americans at the outset of the war.
As for whether American citizens can “go out and have a machine gun these days,” the answer is yes, they can, as long as acquiring and possessing one does not violate the laws of the state in which they live, and provided they comply with numerous federal requirements.
Biden is correct that “No amendment to the Constitution is absolute.” But he is not correct that this means it is constitutional to ban commonly owned firearms or that it is constitutional for the government to reduce the Second Amendment to a right in name only.
On June 26, 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Heller v. D.C., ruled 5-4 that the Second Amendment does, indeed, protect an individual right. The Court struck down D.C.’s onerous gun law, which outlawed handguns altogether and even banned rifles and shotguns from the home unless they were rendered useless for personal protection. Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority, wrote: “In sum, we hold that the District’s ban on handgun possession in the home violates the Second Amendment, as does its prohibition against rendering any lawful firearm in the home operable for the purpose of immediate self-defense.”
The majority opinion in Heller did rule that the Second Amendment protects an individual right that can be regulated, just as any other right can be subject to regulation. Justice Scalia wrote, “It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” Justice Scalia went on to say the Court’s decision “should not be taken to cast doubt on many existing restrictions against gun possession, including handgun possession by felons and the mentally ill, possession in schools and government buildings and rules governing commercial arms sale. But outright bans on the Second Amendment right, like the First Amendment’s free speech, are not constitutional.”
The Heller ruling did leave room for future rulings to further define this right, but Biden is clearly wrong that an outright ban on popular semi-automatic rifles is constitutional.
Biden’s second point, that “everyone should have a universal background in order to determine whether they are capable [emphasis mine] of owning a weapon,” is frightening and telling. He didn’t say “legally prohibited” or some other such phrase; he said “capable,” a vague term subject to interpretation that would allow a government entity to arbitrarily decide who can handle a right that has been specifically protected from government infringement.
Clearly, Biden thinks the government should be able to simply take away this constitutionally protected right whenever and however it pleases.

Chicago Mayor Orders Residents NOT To Use Guns For Self Defense While
« Reply #106 on: June 22, 2020, 01:20:32 PM »
Rioters Burn City

The news cycle always moves fast, but it’s been at warp speed since 2020 began.  Some stories are only coming to light weeks after they’ve happened — like in the case of this Tampa, FL Walmart looting.

Another story that didn’t get the press it deserved at the time was a press conference on June 8th.  Chicago’s radical leftist Mayor Lori Lightfoot told her citizens that self-defense wasn’t necessary.  Just call the police!

Obviously we’re aware of the fact that Illinois is a concealed carry state, and that many people have weapons at their disposal in their homes and their businesses,” Lightfoot said.

Do not take matters into your own hand.  Call the police.  We’ve seen tragedy happen in this country, and recently, when people felt like they could take matters into their own hands.
Let me remind you of the killing of Mr. Arbury.  Do not pick up arms and try to be the police.  If there’s a problem, call 911.  We will respond.  But I urge people to show restraint and do not take matters into your own hands.

Talk about a fruitcake!
This America-hating lunatic has more blood on the streets of her city than entire states that don’t have any of the gun control she loves so much!

While violent mobs are rampaging through the city and the police are already coming under fire — both literal and political — we’re supposed to hope they come in time to stop a violent thug.
Lady, you might live in a nice gated community that’s miles away from the neighborhoods where the bloodshed is happening but not all of us do.

Her elitist, pretentious comments show she’s just another radical leftist:  security for me but not for thee.

New Zealand’s Gun Confiscation Doesn’t Even Achieve Its Stated Goal
« Reply #107 on: June 27, 2020, 05:57:40 PM »
Gun-related crimes and fatalities are on the rise in New Zealand, despite the country’s recent attempts to ban and confiscate many commonly owned firearms over the past year, according to Radio New Zealand (RNZ).
“New figures obtained by RNZ show that [2019] had the highest rates of gun crime and deaths involving firearms for nearly 10 years,” says the article.
Auckland, New Zealand City Councillor Alf Filipaina told RNZ that several factors may be at the heart of this increase, but chief amongst them was gang-related crime.
This rise in gun-related crime comes after New Zealand’s move to ban several categories of firearms and to confiscate them from law-abiding gun owners after a terrorist left dozens dead in Christchurch, New Zealand in March 2019. New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern summarily banned “military-style” firearms and instituted a “buyback” program just six days after the terrorist attack.
“Now, six days after this attack, we are announcing a ban on all military-style semi-automatics (MSSA) and assault rifles in New Zealand,” said Ardern. “Related parts used to convert these guns into MSSAs are also being banned, along with all high-capacity magazines.”
The “buyback” is reportedly expected to cost in the range of $100-$200 million.
Many anti-gun groups and politicians in the U.S. applauded Ardern’s decision, including Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts, who tweeted that “New Zealand’s willingness to act swiftly after a national shooting tragedy stands in stark contrast to the US.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) tweeted: “We must follow New Zealand’s lead, take on the NRA and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States.”
Predictably, what’s happening in New Zealand is that some law-abiding citizens are turning in their politically incorrect guns while criminals are choosing to hold onto theirs.

Trudeau’s ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Includes Numerous Bolt Action Rifles
« Reply #108 on: June 29, 2020, 02:48:27 PM »
An close examination of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s ban of 1,500 “assault weapons” reveals the list of prohibited firearms includes a number of bolt action rifles.

Bolt action rifles have been go-to rifles for the hunters and the sport community for over a century and do not have a self-loading action–a semiautomatic action–but are fed a new round only when the hunter or sportsman manually pulls back a bolt to reload.

LAWMAKERS: DEFUND POLICE? THEN UNCHAIN THE SECOND AMENDMENT
« Reply #109 on: June 29, 2020, 05:12:20 PM »
Republicans on Capitol Hill have introduced a resolution stressing the importance of preserving the right to keep and bear arms after calls to defund police.

The Second Amendment for Everyone (SAFE) Resolution of 2020 was introduced to the U.S. House this week by Idaho Republican Russ Fulcher, backed by 15 co-sponsors drawn from nine states. The move asks local governments who seek to reduce their local law enforcement agencies to do so while ensuring their local gun regulations do not burden their residents.

“I support the right of Americans to own and responsibly use firearms—particularly during a time when the police’s ability to protect our citizens may be lessened, or even removed in some areas,” said Fulcher in a statement. “People have a right to protect themselves, and this should not be impeded by local, state, or county regulations that have enacted costly, lengthy, and burdensome procedures for obtaining legal, constitutionally-granted gun ownership.”

The measure, introduced as H.Res.1013, would resolve that any jurisdiction that moves to dismantle or reduce funding for law enforcement should check their own local regs and cut away rules that put a crimp on individual gun ownership or access to firearms. The goalposts for identifying such restrictions should be the landmark pro-gun Heller and McDonald cases decided by the Supreme Court.

Fulcher’s office points out that many jurisdictions have mandatory training requirements for prospective gun owners that are so expensive as to tread on Second Amendment rights. Further, reducing police presence in some regions, especially for sparsely-patroled rural areas, could put residents at risk while at the same time placing barriers to legal gun ownership.

The SAFE Resolution has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.

Year — Special Session Called For August

Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia has a mission: to beat the law-abiding citizens of his state into submission. That’s why Virginia’s gun owners weren’t surprised to learn today that Governor Northam will be holding a special legislative session this August — and that gun control will be one of the items up for discussion.

Keep in mind that this special session was originally slated to talk about the economic impact of the Corona scare.

But as the narrative of the media changed from scaring the citizens with Corona to scaring them with riots following the death of George Floyd, so did Northam’s special session.

Now, the topic is going to be Criminal Justice Reform.  We’re sure all the people who have lost thousands of dollars to the Corona scare will be grateful.

That said, Northam has specifically said that he wants to revisit the ‘Assault Weapons’ ban.  Yes, the exact same gun that homeowner Mike McCloskey of St. Louis used last week to defend his home, his wife, and his own life from an angry mob.

The exact date has not been announced for the special session.  The Speaker of the House, Eileen Filler-Corn has said only that it will happen in ‘late July or August’.

Additionally, Northam specifically wants to revisit HB961, a pernicious piece of legislation that included an ‘assault weapons’ ban but that got held over until the 2021 session.

Northam has already promised to come back with more gun control in 2021, but what better time to pass an ‘assault weapons ban’ than when you’ve ordered most of your state to stay home unless absolutely necessary?

Playing Hardball, and Playing For Keeps

The Virginia playbook is the new playbook of the left.  Gun owners should take notice, because this is how they’re going to play the game from now on.
The will try to pass 15-20 gun control bills at one time –knowing that not all of them will pass but ALSO knowing that cowardly, sellout Republican legislators will cut them a deal so they seem moderate and reasonable.

At the end of the day, the left will have gotten 90% of their gun control bills passed and Republicans will have sold out another few hundred yards of ground.

All the while, gun owners are told to see this crushing defeat as a victory.  That’s right.  Sellout political organizations back sellout politicians and the two traitors hold hands while they cheer that they stopped the left from taking that last 10%.

But the next session marches around, and the left is back for more.  And this time, gun owners have wised up.  They don’t believe the big pro-gun organization — because they’re in bed with the sellout politicians!  So they don’t vote at all.  Why bother?  There aren’t any candidates with the spine to stand up to the left, anyway!
And the domino effect that is Virginia’s disaster accelerates to a free fall.
