Trump Derangement Syndrome : A Growing Mental Health Epidemic
« on: November 10, 2019, 09:00:36 AM »

"According to Dr. Derek Von Bodenheimer, TDS is a mental illness that causes otherwise rational individuals to completely lose their minds whenever President Donald Trump speaks, tweets, or sneezes. “People who suffer from TDS lose all sense of reality when confronted with conversations about the president, or even when they meet one of his supporters,” Bodenheimer said. “Even a slight agreement with one of his policies is liable to trigger this person. They go absolutely bonkers.”

President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

MACKUBIN OWENS: Praetorianism And The Deep State. “Of course, the president’s critics mocked the idea of a deep state as a crazy right-wing conspiracy theory. But they have come around now not only to admit that the deep state does exist, more importantly, they claim, it’s a good thing!”

The permanent bureaucracy says that the government belongs to it, not to the voters. If so, why should the voters comply with its edicts, support it financially, or even allow it and its denizens to exist?

I would say the Derangement syndrome is just as strong in the other direction, with people such as yourself that are convinced every misstep, ignorant statement, impulsive and thoughtless action by Trump is not the sign of a man completely out of his depth, but rather the sign of some brilliant genius who is playing 4-dimensional chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

I see a parallel in sports fandom.  Fans of say Ohio State will defend their program almost no matter what, while Michigan fans deride it, and vice versa.

Neither side is anything near "non-partisan" because they are fans.  It's not a logical attachment of course, you don't become a fan of Team X for logical reasons, usually you are born there, or grow up there, or whatever.  Religion is largely the same way.  Humans are social animals of course and most prefer groups and group think and "our side versus their side".

If you are not on my side, you are crazy, stupid, corrupt, abysmal, whatever.

That's true, but we're in the midst a perfect parallel that shows how the right is soooo much worse.

Generally speaking, when Clinton was impeached, the left didn't deny the reality of his guilt, or accuse the right of being deranged or of trying to undo the '96 election.  They just said this crime isn't serious enough to warrant impeachment and his impeachment would do more harm (causing partisan division) than good to the country.

Partisan politics is one thing, but what we're seeing from the right is truly something well beyond.

(now cue Roady or Texie finding some obscure individual that counters my point)

I personally think what we see from the Left is exceptional based on recent history.  I don't see either the Right nor the Left has standing on some lofty moral ground today.  Of course the Left thinks the Right is "far out" and vice versa, hence my point.

I think this largely is a result of 24 hour news, the Internet, and polarization caused by those factors with a relatively smaller portion of the population.

Quite a few Americans are disinterested/apathetic about most of this.  If their 401K looks nice, they are pretty happy and not too bothered by theoretical stuff in DC.

Which action do you consider to be more about "undoing the prior election?"  The Birthers (lead at times by Trump himself), or the current impeachment hearings?

There are plenty of examples of those on "The Left" doing rather extreme, IMHO, things.  I'm not sure what percentage is "on the Left" versus just being typically Liberal.

I had friends in Cincinnati who would visibly become angry if anyone mentioned anything about Trump.  They would launch into a tirade and be unpleasant.  I'd never seen that before on either side, but I don't hang around extreme rightists.

Don't ever let anyone ever tell you that you don't know how to dodge a question.

So you are still having problems understanding why he was elected  among other issues
