"...Proof of an underlying crime is not an element of an obstruction charge, and individuals are regularly charged with obstruction without facing criminal liability for an underlying offense. To take just one example, Martha Stewart was charged with obstructing an investigation into insider stock trading without facing criminal liability for her trades..."

Not true.
Martha Stewart was charged with more than just obstruction.
There was a conspiracy charge as well as a securities fraud charge against her.
And looky who prosecuted her.....

Martha Stewart’s Exile to Camp Cupcake: In what was perhaps his most public trial as U.S. attorney for New York’s Southern District, James Comey prosecuted famous lifestyle guru, Martha Stewart, for conspiracy, obstruction of justice and securities fraud. While some legal authorities labeled Comey’s pursuit of Stewart, who was indicted in 2003, as “petty,” Comey defended his unrelenting approach saying, “if it was Jane Doe she would have been prosecuted.”

But ....
1.  The walls are closing in.
2.  Trump's worst day ever.
3.  Mueller said to be about to conclude, Trump's President on the precipice.
4.  Collusion.
5.  Evidence for collusion is obvious.
6.  Noose is tighetning.
7.  The beginning of the end.
8.  This is the beginning of the next chapter.
9.  This isn't over.
10.  There must be a pony here somewhere.

Exactly. This is ridiculous. The Left can’t let go.

But for some reason he didn’t go after Hillary. I guess he didn’t want to “commit suicide”, die in some mysterious car accident, or die during a “robbery”.

A child who wakes up on Christmas morning and is surprised to find a heap of horse manure under the tree instead of a collection of presents. Yet, the child is not discouraged because he has an extraordinarily optimistic outlook on life. His parents discover him enthusiastically shoveling the manure as he exclaims, “With all this manure, there must be a pony somewhere!”

Optimism is often a good quality to have, but not always.

The Socialist can't let this go....It's comical how maniacal these people are....

Several months ago I was watching one of the MSM stations....There was a socialist congressman as a guest....The announcer asked what would the Democrats do if the Mueller report found no collusion, or obstruction....He said it doesn't matter, we will just keep investigating..That's what we do.

This is nothing more than political grandstanding by the socialists...

Pitiful group of people....

Trump was exonerated for 2 reasons:

Aside from the fact that Barr is not in a position to "exonerate" Trump, he did so for one reason - partisanship.

1) Mueller found no evidence of obstruction

That's false - there was not enough evidence to merit indicting the POTUS.  Even Barr didn't "exonerate" Trump of obstruction.

2) there was no crime to obstruct...

Doesn't matter - one can obstruct an investigation.  Read the article I posted above - you will learn something.

Why is that so difficult for you to understand.

The Mueller Report was a great victory for Trump - thankfully you've completely botched your gloat-session.

Anyone who thinks the Mueller report is somehow contrary to what Barr wrote is going to be disappointed a second time.  There is zero chance Barr misrepresented the Mueller report in any way.

None.  If he's dumb enough to have done that, he should be impeached and disbarred and probably pilloried as well, and he apparently is not dumb.  He mar be partisan, but he's not dumb.

Yep.

For all intensive purposes, Trump was exonerated.

Mueller may have tried to be cute about it in his report and leave POTUS open for political damage because there is no love lost for Trump by Mueller and his entire crew, but the fact of the matter is that Mueller did not charge Trump with obstruction.

And nothing prevented Mueller from doing so, if he truly thought Trump was guilty of it.

Incidentally, the expression is "for all intents and purposes", I realize I'm being picky.

The Constitution arguably prevents Mueller from charging Trump, but not Trump Jr., et al.

President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

Perhaps, but that notwithstanding, he still wouldn't have been charged per Barr's letter:

"..the evidence developed during the Special Counsel's investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense. Our determination was made without regard to, and is not based on, the constitutional considerations that surround the indictment and criminal prosecution of a sitting president."

That sentence was written by Barr, not Mueller.  I agree that Congress has a right to see whatever evidence there is of "obstruction", though I don't think it can rise to the level of a criminal charge.  I'm sure whatever is there will be used politically of course.

Impeachment is off the table completely now, unless something else comes up.  I know some yammer about it, but it's off the table.  That is a binary decision, and it's a zero for now.
