Think God Might Be a Little Unhappy With Us?
« on: September 14, 2020, 11:06:57 PM »

I’m just spitballin’ here…

A Pandemic.  Mindless moist robots out of control in urban areas.  The Western third of the country on fire.  A Cat 2 hurricane just off the Gulf Coast, that two days ago was a collection of thunderstorms…

Didn’t they have an earthquake in… where was it… Florida?

I don’t know… I can’t imagine why He’d be unhappy.

Just because we’ve aborted 60 million kids in the last 50 years, so we could keep our groove thang on…

Just because we’ve spit in the face of His created order by making Adam and Steve equivalent to Adam and Eve…

Just because a 7-year-old can access limitless amounts of the  nastiest, hard core porn with about two mouse clicks…

Just because our little pre-teen girls are going around singing “WAP”, America’s top song,  “sung” by some harlot who has the ear of a former VP, and presidential candidate.  And watching images of their peers stroking their privates for voyeuristic pleasure, in a mainstream movie…

Just because virtually no one in public office is calling on Him in the midst of one of the deepest pits the country has ever found itself in; just because no one in public office is crying out for His aid, and mercy; and begging for Him to forgive us for our Godless, self-centered culture… And calling for national repentance…?

Why would He be unhappy with any of that?

I’m sure He’s cool.

Carry on.

God might be unhappy with us at any period in history.  I could cite godless behaviors over time rather easily.

When was better?

And that hurricane was a tropical depression expected to strengthen into a hurricane, not some random collection of thunderstorms.

I've asked my wife a similar question on how much worse it has to get before God destroys it?

But he must not be as unhappy about things that are happening as some of are or we would have seen fire and brimstone falling by now.
Could be there are still ten righteous men somewhere in this country.  :dink:

With the bringing of the sewer to main street and declaring to good. To the attack and pushing Christianity to the back street, to behind closed doors, the increased persecution of even the simplest displays of Christianity, etc. Satan is happy and his disciples are stepping out and pushing for more.  God cannot be pleased. But he knew this would occur.  Just last night I was reading were some Rabbi's  were saying we would see the Messiah soon that they had talked to him. You and I know where this is leading yet so many keep going nay.
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

Just a little food for thought.

And that’s actually a good point, Cincy.

As Vernon McGhee used to point out:  things are getting better AND worse.

Plenty of times in history that weren’t so fun.

Just finished reading Marvin O’Lasky’s column about his grandfather.  Deserted the Russian Army in 1902; managed to get to Liverpool and book passage in the hold of a ship; 100 people crammed in, puke everywhere, stinking bodies, the smell of the one head reeking everywhere.  Gets to Boston, shares a flea- and lice- and bedbug ridden straw mattress with another border in a tenement slum..

Not fun.  But he ended up starting a successful business…

The thing is:  the bad outweighs the good.

You go to the mailbox.  Four pieces of mail:

Your daughter is accepted at the college she wanted.  Good.

You been hired by the company you applied with.  Promotion, raise, and bonus.  Good.

Your taxes have been reduced.  Good.

Last envelop.  Your test results.  You have stage four terminal cancer.

Not good.

The bad always outweighs the good.

Gym, there is no doubt that the prayers of the righteous (in Christ; there is no other righteousness, as you know; our self-righteous works are “filthy rags”) are the number one factor in keeping this tottering nation afloat.  Hopefully, they will carry the day in Nov.  But it is evident we’re in DEEP trouble, either way the election goes.

I’m one of those who agrees there are parallels between the ancient Northern Kingdom of Israel, and the USA.  Both were founded on Godly principles.  And in fact, Israel was a sort of tax revolt against Judah.  Both were successful as long as they held to those Godly principles, and gave glory to God.  Both abandoned those principles, and God, to their ruin.  Israel was utterly destroyed by its enemies.  Will we be?

Stay tuned…

One of the singular aspects of these singular times is that, to my knowledge, no public figure has invoked God’s blessing upon us, or offered a single invocation of anything like national repentance for our collective sin.

I think we can all agree, that would be unheard of.  Political suicide.

And there’s the rub.  ’Twas not always so…

And virtually no mention of our sovereign God in the public square.  Occasional exceptions pop up on Fox, by guests — that wonderful candidate for congress from Nevada (I think), former football player.  Who’s name, to my shame, I can’t recall…

A few others.  It’s always a little shocking, when someone actually mentions God or Jesus on TV.

Which should be shocking in itself.

Make of it what you will…

Some preachers are public figures, most I would opine.

Paul Harvey warned us in 1965 what was happening and what was to come but we weren't listening.

No one has ever said it better or made it any clearer the road we were headed down.

Great add, Gym.  Haven’t seen it in awhile.

Cincy:

And praise God for them.

By the way — we have lost so many powerful voices in recent years.  Adrian Rogers, quite awhile ago, now.  Chuck Missler.  Ravi Zacharias…

I hope there are men of that calibre waiting to replace them.  Lord willing…

Here’s more what I was talking about:

Proclamation Appointing a National Fast Day

Washington, D.C.
March 30, 1863

Senator James Harlan of Iowa, whose daughter later married President Lincoln's son Robert, introduced this Resolution in the Senate on March 2, 1863. The Resolution asked President Lincoln to proclaim a national day of prayer and fasting. The Resolution was adopted on March 3, and signed by Lincoln on March 30, one month before the fast day was observed.

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

Whereas, the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the Supreme Authority and just Government of Almighty God, in all the affairs of men and of nations, has, by a resolution, requested the President to designate and set apart a day for National prayer and humiliation.

And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.

And, insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment, inflicted upon us, for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity…

The times in which we live can always seem extreme, unless you have some perspective of history and how things have been in the past.

Agreed.  Plenty of nasty, nasty times in history.
