Any P5 HC position is a tough job I think, but how much will these guys get paid for relaxing now?

I somewhat disagree with the firing of Odom.

I'd also be willing to be HC in the SEC for a year at half the salary they make.

Matt Luke's buyout reportedly around 17 million. That's one big problem with hiring coaches giving big contracts before they produce a winner.

Look at the money Tennessee has spent buying out losers and most programs don't break even much less generate revenue.

Firing Matt Luke surprised me. Luke is the Ole Ms version of a VFL. He's from Ms , he played at Ole Ms, he was an assistant at Ole Ms and has been hamstrung since being named as HC with NCAA probation limiting scholarships and bowl bans.
I thought he did a credible job and was competitive in almost all of their games this year...even against Bama and LSU . Fans these days needs instant gratification so guess firing Luke made them feel better

I always figured the Big Donors actually decide these things.

Two of the three fired were alums so that was surprising given their NCAA cloud issues. Supposedly OM fired Luke to go after Mike Norvell.

The fake urination may have cost Matt Luke his job and saved Joe Moorhead his.

Arkansas going after Lane Kiffin?

'Half the team' considering transferring from Ole Miss after Matt Luke firing, per player

The AD is a good friend of Luke and planned to keep him for another year. The fallout from the loss to Mississippi State really surprised him and his hand was forced. The players reaction is due to it seeming to come out of left field. Luke is a players coach and defended them when internet warriors started trashing the players. Their recruiting class is already falling apart, and there will several transfers due to this.

there are a few of them i wouldn't mind see land on the hill.

Odom was screwed- he stuck through Mizzou's silliest period ever- and turned out decent teams considering.  he's done as much with as little as just about anyone else.  listening to president talk about his decision, i got a chuckle.. he was talking about million's of dollars of renovations done to their stadium and facilities and proclaiming them 'second to none'... he needs to get out more.  their stadium is no better than the better high school stadiums in Texas- no kidding.  they are pitiful, and far and more the worst in the SEC- to include vandy.  either there is something more, or, they just put themselves back a generation and will be no better than vandy or arkansas..

speaking of...

if arkansas doesn't land kiffin (which is priceless they're courting him as they not-so-long-ago believed they were all that and more and looked down their long noses at UT's hiring and subsequent loss of Kiffin... saying that UT is a second tier... it was difficult being a UT fan on the old CFN/Scout SEC board those years.  and now they're actually hoping for lame kitten... go figure.. THEY SHOULD GO AFTER ODOM.

Peterson leaving Washington is curious.  he's not been happy there it has been obvious, and he's wanted to be at a top tier school for some time IN THE EAST.  he has some inferiority complex about western teams and tv times believing that the biggest reason they are overlooked in national discussions.  FSU? methinks so... Ole Miss? THAT would be interesting... i don't think Arky has the pull for Peterson and any coach worth anything would decline Mizzou after what they just did to Odom.  i'll be curious to see how his leaving Washington plays into the SEC coaching changes, though... i think it does.

I'm thinking Stoops to FSU still.  Kiffin to Arky.  Odom would be a good choice for Ole Miss if they can get him- to a degree they just put any potential coach on notice in their handling of Luke.  the incestuous weirdness between coaches at arky and ole miss, it wouldn't surprise me to see Luke end up there, and Odom still at Ole Miss- where he would be dangerous. I'm thinking Mizzou will try to hire Dooley- and that, folks, will be priceless.

Butch Jones to Arky or even Ole Miss isn't out of the question, except for buyouts and salary's complicating it.

I'm mighty proud of Pruitt.  He did real good this season in situations that were difficult to say the least.  I really think he's going to do the program some greatness- and hopefully stay.  it feels pretty good to not have these coaching chase considerations for once.

Completely agree with Odom.
He did a great job considering the situation at Mizzou.
With all their PC nonsense, he recruited about as well as possible.
With portal transfers now making it easier to move, I think we see more transfers nowadays when a coach is dismissed than in the past.

Who would UT want from Ole Miss?

they've got some good pigs on both lines, a couple seasoned db's, and a couple blazing receivers (just leave the pisser alone, though).

i think their cupboards are bare with LB's, but they have had some decent one's there in the past, speaking to their player development capabilities of the past few years.

and... they have a young (fr) QB who isn't afraid to sling 'em.. i'd put him at least on par with Mauer if not edging him.

From what I saw of the Ole Miss QB Plumlee, he is unreal fast and evasive. I think his future is in Baseball so I'm not sure if he will want to play Football for 4 years.
