Republicans in Washington are a huge failure
« on: March 22, 2018, 09:26:46 PM »
I just read some of the highlights of the Omnibus Bill.   Over 2,200 pages, nobody read it, it was written in secret, and it features a 13% increase in discretionary spending.   Repubs got an increase in military spending, and the Dems got "Happy Days Are Here Again" spending.   When Chuckie Schumer is happy, the country is in trouble.   I think the tax cut was a positive, but coupled with runaway spending, it's not going to work out.  When our debt hits $30 trillion in a few years, spend-happy Dems will blame the tax cuts, and that's all you'll hear in the MSM.  Anyone with half a brain knows the problem is spending.

The bottom line is that Republicans aren't any better than Democrats.  Not any more.  And they will pay dearly November.

Sadly I agree
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

I wonder if some of the republicans don't care if they lose a majority in November, so the Dems can do the heavy lifting (i.e. impeachment proceedings) to rid themselves of Trump.

I don't blame the House as much as the Senate on this spending failure.  McConnell refuses to do what needs to be done.

Louie Gohmert (R-TX): “This is really tragic, a massive spending bill. And the truth is, the House did our job. We passed 12 appropriations bills. We had a budget. And the Senate didn’t do their job. It doesn’t appear they’re ever going to until number one, we get rid of the cloture, the 60 vote requirement and go with 51. … President Trump’s been great on that. And then — and by the way, the Constitution only requires a majority. That was a super-imposition by the Senate.”

Then the constitutionality needs challenged

It's been decades since Republicans weren't a failure.

The 60 vote cloture requirement is extra-constitutional, i.e. not in the Constitution.  McConnell needs to get rid of it.

You mean fuzzy's been right all these years about the insincerity of their populist rhetoric?

Mostly because of the political establishment, we have become zero-sum thinkers.

Just let Trump work.

They have Trump in somewhat of a pickle here.  If he signs it, then he is one of them on spending and there is no hope for reigning in the spending and debt.  If he was to veto it, then they bash him for shutting down the government and eventually something similar to it gets passed anyway.

From the standpoint of fiscal responsibility, it would seem the libertarians are the only ones that care.

There wasn't a budget passed it was an Omnibus Bill where everything is lumped into one big bill.

When the budget is done correctly everything is done is separate bills such as defense spending so it can be debated on it's merit and to keep the politicians from adding their pork spending to keep it from passing.

There has not been an actual budget done in years.

Ryan and McConnell are controlled by the Business Round Table, Chamber of Commerce and paid lobbyist the people who actually write the legislation.
If everyone is thinking alike then somebody isn't thinking.

Past time for term limits and a overhaul of the lobbying industry
