The chair shenanigans is one of the oldest psychological tricks in the book.  Used mostly as a tactic by insecure negotiators or interviewers, i.e. giving your opponent a shorter chair or adjusting your seat higher in advance.

For example, note CBS Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan and how her chair is set higher than that of her guest.

Yep.
Phil Fulmer's "fung shui master" did the same thing when she redecorated his office.
There was a "step up" where his desk was - always putting the other person in a subservient position.
I think that's about the same time that his recruiting prowess went straight downhill.
The recruits could no longer relate.

Thanks for posting that.  I'll have to add Hitchcock's movies to my required viewing list.

Actually, I think his first US film, "Rebecca" is my favorite.
The storyline took me by surprise....
And I had a serious crush on Joan Fontaine....but she was too old for me.....and apparently a bit weird in real life...

But Vertigo is much more highly rated today than when it first came out....

Looks like you can watch the film in its entirety online on youtube:

And Judith Anderson is a flat-out awesome actress in this film.

Well, to be fair we don't actually know, do we?

Gimme a few days to see if I can come up with an email.
