For the leftwing liberal, the anthem protests are the perfect event:

  • It brings attention to the protesters.  "Hey, look at me!"
  • It provides a feeling of self-gratification by "standing up" for something.
  • The protesters cannot have a fact-based discussion about the topic.
  • The premise is based on a lie.
  • It shifts blame from those responsible for very real problems to a strawman.
  • Liberals who harbor feelings of racial guilt can assuage their feelings by supporting the protests.
  • It disrespects our flag and our national anthem.
  • It disrespects the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to police scum.
  • It disrespects the people who are paying their salaries.
  • It propagates ignorance.
  • It divides the country.

It's a bonanza for the haters.

At this point, I'd say it's more of a much deserved F-U to all the free speech opponents out there.  Can't blame them for that, but it's actually short-sighted.
I disagree with the protests, and would advise them against it.  To the extent they're protesting "inequality" (which I think is a big part of it?), their actions are counter-productive.  They may like how it feels and how it looks on TV, but if it's costing them viewers then it's costing them money, and that's not good for black economic equality (which is the most important kind).
It's hard to take conservatives seriously when they whine about "disrespecting the flag" when they're completely callous to the much more clear offenses committed with the Confederate flag that they refuse to repudiate.
It's like when Christians try to criticize Islamic theology.  It's just too laced with hypocrisy to carry much weight.

.

Well Mary again you show ignorance so why don't you explain just what callous offenses were committed under the Confederate battle flag which is the one you referenced.

It certainly wasn't making war on American citizens by burning, looting, raping and murdering which was done under the Union flag by northern troops and the northern generals who brought their slaves along to help them.

It's definitely hard to take you liberal loons serious when you don't know your history or the subject you attempt to discuss thinking you know the facts.

It was Lincoln who ordered Sherman to destroy everything from Chattanooga to Charleston, he ordered Sheridan to destroy and burn everything in the Shenandoah Valley, he ordered all of his generals to destory the South and everything in it so they could no longer make war.

It was former Methodist preacher turned journalist Willam "Parson" Brownlow elected governor of Tennessee who wanted to execute by hanging all former confederates.

So don't come here trying to tell us about callous offenses commited under the Confederate flag when there was not any but if what Lincoln and his generals did happened today they would have been tried and executed for war crimes.

If everyone is thinking alike then somebody isn't thinking.

It's no surprise the point went over your empty head, gymie.
What happened during the Civil War is irrelevant.  We're talking about modern-day symbolic gestures.  Kneeling during the national anthem, flying the Confederate flag, etc.  Conservatives' perspective on these matters is predictably narrow.  They understand why they don't like blacks kneeling during the anthem just fine, but they forfeit their credibility when they cannot understand why blacks don't like seeing people (or state governments) flying the Confederate flag (which is more clearly offensive).

Who burned what 150 years ago during a traitorous rebellion that sought to preserve the enslavement of black people doesn't matter.

Why do you get to decide what the gesture means, instead of the people making the gesture?

I had thought about picking a Pro team and following them since I moved to NEPA, as well as go to some games as a local Buss company has individual game tickets that includes their buss fare, a meal, etc but they (the players) turned me against that idea quick. They are even alienating life long fans in this area.

At one time most owners where conservative but not any more and libs like the backbone to put an end to what is damaging their golden egg

No protests.   No rallies.   No rich athletes doing anything.

20 shot in Chicago

The two cousins had planned to settle in for a night of playing video games, but first, the boys, 15 and 17, wanted to walk to the nearby gas station for something to eat.
“Probably junk food,” said Genice Hines, the mother of the 15-year-old, with an eye roll and a smile.
It felt like a normal Friday night, until Hines received a call as she left work. Her son and nephew, two close friends, had been shot.
The boys were standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard in the West Side’s Lawndale neighborhood when they heard gunfire, police said. They were about a block from the gas station at Roosevelt Road and Independence.
The 15-year-old was grazed in the head, and the 17-year-old was shot in the abdomen. They took themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital where they were both in good condition.
“Chicago is a scary place to be,” Hines said. “Even I’m scared to walk to the corner store.”
The boys were among 20 people shot Friday and early Saturday, one of them fatally. Three other juveniles were wounded in attacks in the city, including a 12-year-old girl.
The shootings come as the department adds 600 officers to patrol the streets this weekend in the districts most affected by gun violence following the city’s most violent weekend in more than two years.
At least 74 people were shot last weekend between 3 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday, 12 of them fatally.
The homicide happened around 8:10 a.m. Friday when an 18-year-old man was found in an alley with a gunshot wound to his head in the 2900 block of West Pershing Road in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
The man, identified as Dylan Zavala, of the 1600 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:50 a.m.
In other shootings:

No arrests have been made.

The NFL executives care much more about what their peers think than what their audience and customers think.

Hugely destructive on an economic basis.

Let's not pretend you would have supported any protests in this instance, either.  The only things blacks are allowed to protest is other blacks, remember?

When you can't rebut, then you deflect, eh Texie?

I would certainly support the black community if they were to protest against the groups and individuals responsible for the carnage: drug dealers, thugs, and #BLM which is responsible for the withdrawal of police from the worst neighborhoods.  What I object to is the protest against a lie: that black men are being slaughtered by racist cops.  By the way, since you can't hold your ground in a debate with me, it probably is a good idea to build a strawman and debate him.   You might stand a fighting chance.

When you can't rebut, then you deflect, eh Texie?

Rebut what?   You have nothing.   Your earlier reply was just blather.   You clearly don't understand that this isn't a free speech issue.  If I thought you were capable of learning, I would try to explain it to you.  And your dithering diatribe about conservatives/Christians is just so much horse manure.   So deflect away fuzz.
