Mike Rowe sums up 'student debt'....

“We're lending money we don't have to kids who are never going to be able to pay it back to train them for jobs that don't exist anymore,” he said. “That’s nuts.”

(Sounds like he Democratic progressive platform of Sanders and Warren.)

Yes, we just need to make it "free".

My daughter is starting to look at schools, and unsurprisingly, we're ineligible for any aid.

That means we'll be looking at schools like Georgia Tech, Purdue, UNC.
Schools like Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Texas Christian are out before the search begins.
I think our budget will probably max out tuition at $35,000 per year.
Dartmouth at over $50,000 per year is simply too expensive.

I want my daughter to go to Pellissippi State (good teachers, smaller classes, more mature student body), but she doesn't seem to have any interest.

One of her top three right now.
Georgia Tech, Georgetown, University of Washington.
Didn't like Columbia, UPenn, George Washington.
Johns Hopkins was okay, but it is in Baltimore - she felt unsafe the minute she walked off the campus.

Basically she wants to go to school in a larger city but with a school that has a "real campus".

(will likely nix Georgetown as it is too expensive - but we only visited schools in cities we were going to be in this past summer anyway).

I would not want her in Philly
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

With all due respects to Brown County, don't overlook Texas A&M.  It's an outstanding school, well within your budget, they have a strong conservative culture, and their alumni are a brotherhood.  She would always have a career network if she wore an Aggie Ring.

And a lifetime of Aggie jokes?  <g>

That said, I think she wants to be in a large city.
But certainly a good school to consider.

As for Dartmouth, I actually friends with one of the kids interviewed.
Only 3% support Trump at Dartmouth.

The parents probably aren't pleased.....but kids are kids I guess....

Everything should be free. Why should we be forced to pay for anything. The Government must provide food, housing, education, healthcare, transportation, vacations and entertainment.

My blood runs deep orange, but I'm also part of the Aggie family.   My son's a senior, finishing up his degree in Aerospace Engineering.

There are a smaller universities that have just as good of curriculum as the ones you posted it would depend on what she's planning on majoring in.

UNC at Chapel hill is a leftist democrat stronghold as is Chapel Hill itself.  One of my nephews got his Masters there went from being a conservative to a Kool-Ade drinking liberal.

If she's planning on going to U of Washington you may want to tell her about the weather. It normally rains from mid October thru March hardly a day that it doesn't in those months.
