John Ward could verbally paint the entire picture of UT football and basketball games. You could see the twisting, turning, churning  VOL running back shredding the D to score for UT. Or get excited when he'd exclaim "BOTTOM" on a needed jumpshot.
I spent many a time listening to JW's calls while having to work.
Even when we started getting all UT games broadcast on TV I'd turn the TV sound down so I could hear JW's call. Most times the radio broadcast was purposely delayed to match the video as it was well known that a vast listening audience preferred it that way.
How fitting he retired right after the VOLS won their last NC.
Godspeed John Ward, condolences to his family, friends and legends of fans.

Missed his broadcast (Painting a picture with words) talents for years. I use to turn the TV sound off and listen to him when the Vols were on TV.

Prayers for family and friends.
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”
