...and our family leaves Hong Kong next year, we'd probably move to the Caymans.

Apparently, we're not the only ones thinking this way.....

Rich Americans Flock To Caribbean Ahead Of US Presidential Election Turmoil

SNIP:
Wealthy Americans aren't just fleeing big cities for rural communities amid the virus pandemic, social unrest, and surge in violent crime; some of these folks are leaving the country until the dust settles. Citizenship advisers, government agencies, and real estate developers are pointing out a surge in inbound migration flow of Americans to countries in the Caribbean Sea ahead of the US presidential election.

The very wealthy can survive just about anything in the US, even in California.

We're not "very wealthy".
But having a non-US wife with no global taxation, the value of living in the Caymans makes living there basically free simply from tax savings....

Yup.  My quirky definition of very wealthy is a person who needs no income to live however he wishes.

I've been to Grand Cayman once, it's probably not the place I'd like to reside, not enough trees, but whatever.  They are stable at least and speak English.

I hear good things about Costa Rica, but the country could be upended at some point.

Uraguay is decent the cost of living similar to the USA.

My theory is I can ride it out in the country in the USA if needed.

Biden's tax proposals to me are not that draconian, and of course they may not pass.  They basically are a step back towards the Bush tax plan that Obama largely allowed to stand.  I don't like them, but I didn't like the Trump tax cuts either, I thought they missed some opportunities.

Anyway, I'm not moving if Biden is elected, any more than liberals are moving if Trump is.
