Terrestrial signs up BWXT for technical support
« Reply #42 on: December 26, 2018, 11:34:43 AM »
Terrestrial Energy has contracted BWXT Canada Ltd for technical consultation and design assistance in the development of steam generators and heat exchangers for its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR), which entered the second phase of a vendor design review by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in October.

Terrestrial Energy expects to commission the first IMSR power plants in the 2020s.
Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy, said steam generators and heat exchangers are critical components of any power plant, and the IMSR is no exception.
"We identified this work early in our development as important to achieve a practical and efficient design that can be deployed quickly, and we are fortunate to be able to engage with BWXT Canada's world-class expertise in these areas," Irish said.
BWXT Canada has over 60 years of expertise and experience in the design, manufacturing, commissioning and service of nuclear power generation equipment. This includes Candu and pressurised water reactor steam generators, heat exchangers, nuclear fuel and fuel components, other critical plant components, parts and related plant services. Headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, BWXT Canada is a subsidiary of BWX Technologies, Inc.
Terrestrial Energy describes its IMSR technology as “true innovation in cost reduction, versatility and functionality of nuclear power plants”. IMSR power plants will provide "zero-carbon, reliable, dispatchable, cost-competitive electric power and high-grade industrial heat for use in many industrial applications, such as chemical synthesis and desalination, and in so doing extend the application of nuclear energy far beyond electric power markets", it says.

Schedule for Hanhikivi 1 project revised
« Reply #43 on: December 27, 2018, 02:02:14 PM »
Finland's Fennovoima now expects to receive the construction licence for its planned Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant in 2021. The company had originally expected to start construction of the plant this year. Start of commercial operation of the Russian-supplied plant has been put back four years to 2028.

Fennovoima signed the plant supply contract for Hanhikivi with Rusatom Overseas - Rosatom's subsidiary concerned with exports of nuclear power plants - in December 2013. Rosatom had offered to build a plant using a 1200 MWe AES-2006 VVER under a fixed-price contract.
Fennovoima submitted its 250-page construction licence application to Finland's Ministry of Employment and the Economy for the planned Hanhikivi nuclear power plant project in June 2015. The application sets out details of the plant location, the reactor type, the main safety systems, nuclear waste management, financing of the project and Fennovoima's organisation, the company said.
The government's decision to issue a construction licence will require a positive assessment of the application by the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (Stuk). Fennovoima said it is in the process of supplying the regulator with the design documentation of the plant for assessment. It noted the plant supplier is responsible for the preparation of the design documentation needed for the construction licence and for its delivery to Fennovoima.
The Hanhikivi project is owned by Fennovoima, in which a 34% stake is held by RAOS Voima Oy, the Finnish subsidiary set up in 2014 by Rosatom for the purpose of buying a share in the company. Russia's Titan-2 is the main contractor for the Hanhikivi project.
Fennovoima announced on 21 December that it had received a new schedule estimation from RAOS Project.
"The goal is to receive the construction licence and to start construction of the plant in 2021," Fennovoima said. "Accordingly, the commercial operation of the plant would begin in 2028."
The Finnish company said it has begun working with RAOS Project to develop an overall project schedule "based on the received information". This process, it said, is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2019.
"Finnish safety regulations are the strictest in the world and because of that the design has taken longer than expected," Fennovoima CEO Toni Hemminki was quoted as saying by the YLE newspaper.
Fennovoima began excavation work at the Hanhikivi site in Pyhäjoki in northern Finland in January 2016. It had originally anticipated receiving the construction licence for Hanhikivi 1 in 2018, with operation beginning in 2024. However, in September 2017 the company announced it did not expect to receive the licence until 2019 as the review of documentation related to its application was taking longer than originally envisaged.

A 10-Year Construction project (4 years longer than originally projected).
Want to be that the cost overruns are more than 50% as well?
Unfortunately, that has been the problem with nuclear - consistently over budget and behind schedule.

When the regulators keep changing the regs and you must retro fit then the cost and delays raise. Nuck Pwr is way over regulated. However its amazing many countries are going nuke more than anything else
However with the new Rx designs and the regs for them are not suppose to change we may see a rebirth here in the US, I know  many are interested and TVA may be one of the utilities leading the way

Fourth Tianwan unit enters commercial operation
« Reply #46 on: January 02, 2019, 04:18:40 PM »
Unit 4 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province has entered commercial operation after completing demonstration operation at nominal capacity for 100 hours.

Tianwan Phase I - units 1 and 2 - was constructed under a 1992 cooperation agreement between China and Russia. First concrete was poured in October 1999, and the units were commissioned in June 2007 and September 2007, respectively.
Tianwan Phase II - units 3 and 4 - are similar to the first stage of the Tianwan plant, comprising two AES-91 VVER-1000 units designed by Gidropress and supplied by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom. First concrete for unit 3 was poured in December 2012, while construction of the fourth unit began in September 2013. Unit 3 achieved first criticality on 29 September last year and was connected to the grid on 30 December. That unit entered commercial operation on 15 February.
The loading of a total of 163 fuel assemblies into the core of unit 4 was started on 25 August and completed on 2 September. The reactor achieved first criticality on 30 September. Dynamic tests have since been performed on the reactor at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of capacity.
The demonstration test run of the reactor at nominal capacity for 100 hours was completed at 3:17am on 22 December, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced. Rosatom said the commissioning stage of Tianwan 4's nuclear island had been successfully completed.
"All tests stipulated by the commissioning programme for Tianwan units 3 and 4 have been conducted," it noted. "The tests have proved the nuclear island complies with the technical specifications and safety requirements set forth in the contract."
The Russian company said electricity generated by the unit is now being supplied to the Chinese grid at a fixed price set by the authorities.
Rosatom said, "The near future will see the signing of a preliminary acceptance certificate for the Tianwan unit 4 nuclear island based on the conducted tests in accordance with the general contract for units 3 and 4 of the Tianwan plant made by and between AtomStroyExport (part of Rosatom's engineering division) as the Russian General Contractor and Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation."
Alexey Bannik, ASE Group's director of projects in China, noted: "This means that a two-year warranty period for the plant operation has commenced, and once expired the unit will ultimately be handed over to the Chinese party. We can confidently state that the second stage of the Tianwan nuclear power plant has been built fully on schedule and it is evidenced by this important event."
CNNC said it now has 21 nuclear power reactors in operation, with an installed generating capacity of 19.092 GWe. It expects power generation from those units to exceed 110 TWh by the end of this year. The company currently has a further four units under construction, which will add a further 4.496 GWe of capacity.
Construction of Tianwan Phase III - units 5 and 6 - was originally scheduled to start in early 2011. However, following the March 2011 accident at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant, the Chinese government suspended the approval of new nuclear power projects, including those two units.
The latest Five-Year Plan called for construction of Phase III of the Tianwan plant to be accelerated. China's State Council gave its approval for Tianwan units 5 and 6 - both featuring 1080 MWe ACPR1000 reactors - on 16 December 2015. First safety-related concrete was poured for unit 5 in December 2015, with that for unit 6 poured in September 2016. CNNC plans to put both units 5 and 6 into commercial operation by the end of 2021.
On 8 June, Russia and China signed four agreements, including for the construction of two VVER-1200 reactors as units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan plant. In addition, two VVER-1200 units are to be constructed at the new Xudabao site in Liaoning province. Contracts for Tianwan 7 and 8 were signed between CNNC and Rosatom in early November.

Nuclear power generation peaked in 2006.

Since 2012 it is trending up, but has not reached that 2006 mark.

I understand you dislike being corrected, but some may be interested to know facts instead of non-facts, and others might read this thread, at times.  My corrections are not intended for your benefit as that would be a futile and full time exercise.

" However its amazing many countries are going nuke more than anything else"

Zero countries are going nuke more than anything else.  France is the highest percentage nuclear today and stating they want to reduce that.  Germany wants to go to zero.  Japan is also trying to go to zero.  A few countries are building more plants, but none are going "nuke" more than anything else.

However its amazing many countries are going nuke more than anything else

Is correct as many countries are building nukes more than solar and wind and there is signs of  revival here

Perhaps you might realize that if you actually talked to people in the industry

However with the new Rx designs and the regs for them are not suppose to change we may see a rebirth here in the US, I know  many are interested and TVA may be one of the utilities leading the way

And yes they are looking to build the next generation at the old breeder site as well as other sites

As you said and I quote ''Since 2012 it is trending up, but has not reached that 2006 mark.''

Hmm more countries are building and its trending up, which is you agreeing with my statement in different wording

Thanks for proving my points Pirate OCD Dawg

So you can continue your obnoxious behavior, as I said I don't play games nor respond well to certain personality disorders.
So see if this reminds you of a commandment from Christ to his disciples
