Do you have the numbers for hospitalizations, rather than cases?
I think that hospitalizations is the much more important metric.
But those numbers might not be high enough to panic people....

It's a the middle of the page.  It has doubled since May 1, tripled in a month,  and heading higher.  Another place I saw predicted capacity by mid-August.

1,213 hospitalizations in the latest week vs. 1,550 the week before (down -20%).
They were above 3,000 each week for 5 weeks in a row in April - May.
This is for the entire country.

I don't get it.  Why the panic?  I guess fear sells for the media....

The highest number of hospitalizations for those under 19 in a single week has been 42.
This, out of a population of 76 million.
But let's keep schools closed.....

For adults, only 9.1% of COVID hospitalizations had no known pre-conditions. As best I can tell, roughly 3,500 healthy people at most have been admitted to hospitals for COVID since the beginning of the year.

For the rest, these are all sick, vulnerable people already.  It's a nasty flu that you really don't want to get.  But we're going to shut down the economy for every flu season from now on?

I guarantee you that if the numbers showed that the "COVID crisis" hurt Biden rather than helped him, we'd hear close to nothing about the COVID issue.  For the same reason that the MSM continually showed the riots until the found that they hurt Biden rather than helped him.  Now you rarely, if ever, see any coverage.

10 COVID deaths in Hong Kong since June 1st.
Average age = 81
Exclude one who was 55, average age = 84
The 55 year-old suffered a stroke when in the Philippines, developed complications while in the hospital, but tested positive for COVID before dying and is counted as such.

All but 2 definitely had pre-existing conditions - the other two I'm not sure about (ages 78 & 89).
Ages 71-78 = 4
Ages 80-88 = 1
Ages 89+ = 4

I heard Trump is having hospitals start giving their data to the White House, instead of the CDC.  Is that true?  And if so, why?

Best I can tell, rather than sending it two bureaucracies, hospitals will only have to send it to one - the HHS.
At that point, the HHS sends the data to the CDC...

https://www.statnews.com/2020/07/16/hospital-data-reporting-covid-19/

SNIP:

The new policy is an attempt at consolidation. Rather than requiring hospitals to report Covid-19 data both directly to HHS and to the CDC’s National Health Care Safety Network — on top of sending numbers to the state — it means they’ll only have to submit information to HHS, through a portal run by a tech contractor called TeleTracking.

To some, the change could have some merits. They say the CDC’s data system was built for tracking hospital-acquired pneumonias and urinary tract infections, for instance, and it wasn’t perfect for keeping up with coronavirus data.

The HHS system, however, was built specifically to track the Covid-19 pandemic and it will compile far more data than just what’s currently being produced by hospitals. Plus, hospitals were already reporting similar data through the TeleTracking system. The federal government has been using those reports to determine each state’s allocation of Gilead’s Covid-19 drug, remdesivir.

The CDC’s director, Robert Redfield, downplayed the impact of the change during a press call with reporters Wednesday. He insisted that the CDC will still have the same level of access to Covid hospitalization data as it did when it was collecting the data itself.

“No one is taking access or data away from the CDC,” said Redfield. “This has no effect on the CDC’s ability to use data.”

Redfield insisted that the CDC had long been involved in the rollout of this new HHS system, which was created in April as a central repository for a slew of Covid-19 information. It tracks hospitalization data as well as data on community testing sites, supply chain issues and census data, according to the Washington-based FedScoop.

Arrieta, the HHS CIO, told reporters Wednesday that the new HHS system integrated more than 225 datasets across the U.S.

If we used Trump's rationale and tested much less, we could fix this overnight.

7-24

🆕 6,096 new cases statewide
📶 105,571 total cases statewide

🆕 60 new Luzerne County cases
📶 3,107 total Luzerne County cases

📍75% of total patients RECOVERED*
🔕 999,377 negative tests statewide
🔕 26,890 negative Luzerne County tests

🙏 7,101 deaths statewide
🙏 183 Luzerne County deaths

* Individuals who have “recovered” is determined using a calculation, similar to what is being done by several other states. If a case has not been reported as a death, and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test (or onset of symptoms) then an individual is considered recovered.
