Biden’s disastrous plans for America’s suburbs
« on: August 07, 2020, 04:22:54 PM »
If you live in the suburbs or you’re a city dweller eyeing a move to a quiet cul-de-sac where your kids can play outside, you need to know about Joe Biden’s plan for a federal takeover of local zoning laws.

The ex-veep wants to ramp up an Obama-era social engineering scheme called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing that mercifully barely got underway before President Trump took office, vowing to stop it.

Biden’s plan is to force suburban towns with single-family homes and minimum lot sizes to build high-density affordable housing smack in the middle of their leafy neighborhoods — local preferences and local control be damned.

Starting in 2015, President Barack Obama’s Department of Housing and Urban Development floated a cookie-cutter requirement for “balanced housing” in every suburb. “Balanced” meant affordable even for people who need federal vouchers. Towns were obligated to “do more than simply not discriminate,” as a 2013 HUD proposal explained. Rather, towns had to make it possible for low-income minorities to choose suburban living and provide “adequate support to make their choices possible.”

Had the rule been implemented nationwide, towns everywhere would have had to scrap zoning, build bigger water and sewer lines to support high-density living, expand schools and social services and add mass transit. All pushing up local taxes. Towns that refused would lose their federal aid.

The rule was one of the worst abuses of the Obama-Biden administration — a raw power grab masquerading as racial justice.

In Westchester, County Executive Rob Astorino battled the Obama-Biden administration for years, successfully resisting the baseless smear of racism. Zoning laws limit what can be built in a neighborhood in neutral fashion, Astorino explained, not who can live there.

To be absolutely clear, denying anyone the chance to rent or buy a home because of their race is abhorrent and illegal. It should be prosecuted whenever it still happens.

African Americans have been steadily leaving inner cities and choosing suburban lifestyles, according to Brookings Institution data. Many families — of all races — want the peace of mind of letting their kids ride bikes around quiet neighborhood streets. That’s what zoning laws provide.
The real barrier to suburban living is money. Living in the ’burbs isn’t cheap. HUD Secretary Ben Carson told a House committee last May that “people can only afford to live in certain places.” It’s “not because George Wallace is blocking the door.”
Biden and the equality warriors are using accusations of racism to accomplish something different. Their message is: You worked and saved to move to the suburbs, but you can’t have that way of life unless everyone else can, too.

My first thought was there goes Fuzz's gated community.

Its tyranny at best

they could give a red shit about the 'diversity'..... they want to break up the conservative strongholds by diluting the vote.  plain.  simple.

would you not vote for the party that gave you new digs in a spectacular and pristine location?

and the kicker is they intend to use your tax dollars to assist them destroying you and what you've earned, created, and established.

this madness can't continue- it WILL rip back with a force nobody is prepared for.... and that isn't a good thing.

I don't know what may be the tipping point, but I do know this plan would certainly do it.

You think that this would be a great campaign mailer.

Send to those in the suburbs - "Plans to construct this housing in your neighborhood - and it will happen if you elect Biden".

Nothing motivates voters as much as NIMBY issues.

We're not racist, we just put up huge obstacles for black people and complain when they are able to overcome a couple

What obstacles?  Discrimination in acceptance to Universities?  Discrimination in job hires at Fortune 500 companies?  Discrimination in somehow forcing them to have 65% of kids in single-parent households?

Poor black kids have huge obstacles - more out of environment than anything else.  I don't see any hurdles at all for Obama's kids, Holder's kids, or any other black kid whose grows up in a 2-parent household with college educated parents - in fact, they probably have extraordinary advantages.

But go ahead, tell me how privileged those white kids in West Virginia and Kentucky are where they are living with a single mom with no job.

Environment, not skin color, is the biggest barrier to success.

If the issue is two parent homes, then why should anyone care if they build affordable housing in the suburbs?

I think school choice solve the problems much more cheaply than moving entire neighborhoods.  It is not cost effective otherwise.  Biden's proposal would cost $640 Billion.  School choice doesn't necessarily cost the taxpayers any more money than it does now.

I don't understand that - this is about zoning.  Allowing more high density housing in nicer areas makes money for people.  It doesn't "cost" money.

who suggested the occupants would be black?  methinks you should consider revisiting preconceived notions and who you attribute them to... perhaps you should take a hop skip and jump through Morgantown WV or Wheeling WV, maybe roll down to Abington Va.... on through to Morristown TN... perhaps you take the backroads while doing so... maybe take a week to see the American SW- drive though Denver or Boulder, south through Arlington TX and Houston... take that spectacular drive through the four corners and visit Airizona and California (take your pick of city) and pay attention to the race of people occupying section 8 housing along the way... Head up through Idaho- Boise... take note of that... haul all the way back home but don't stop! keep driving into Massachusetts and north into Vermont into Maine... keep tracking the color of section 8 housing... drive back through New Hampshire and keep right on recording...

my guess is you will discover not a consistent color but a consistent 'class' of people.. whether it was the chicken or the egg i wouldn't guess, but you'll find the social class matches the economic class in just about every application... and color/race be damned...

people claiming 'victimhood' because of race has played out.  it has little to nothing to do with race.  and for every white man that judges a black man because of his race, there is a black man condemning a white man for the same... hispanic, asian, native american, et al... every 'race' is a part of that 'culture'- and that 'culture' is frowned upon for a damn good reason.

but let us stop talking falsely, here...

IF such an experiment would be successful, i'd be all for it.  IF there was a shining example to show, I'd love to see it (and I do not mean that critically or skeptically- i mean just what i wrote.).

what we do see is crime ridden desperation and people steeped in playing the system to their gain in every situation i'm aware of when section 8 housing is concerned.  could there be an exception? sure.... are ALL of the people in that condition part of the culture that has earned them critical scrutiny? hell no... not even 'most' of them... but the group is defined by the 'stand outs'... how about we build such a concept if build we must, in an area where it's success or demise will not be the detriment of adjacent or the same neighborhood... and if it works out? just think of the value of the surrounding property!  I'm sure you wouldn't mind investing your hard earned money in the property, amiright, @MaximumSam ?

You don't really believe that? If you do, you may be the problem.
