A Common Sense Question For The Board ( Including Fuzz)
« on: January 16, 2018, 11:29:47 AM »
"As I tried to explain to Roady, Trump had to do with why the alarm was so believable."
Fuzz 1/15/18

When I read Fuzz's post I kind of rolled my eyes at the absurdity of his statement.
I would like to ask the board what would you do if you received a text and alarm from
state or federal emergency services stating there was an inbound intercontinental ballistic missle aimed at your state? And that this was NO DRILL
If Obama or Bill Clinton or even Hiliary Clinton would you have ignored the warning?
Would your response be any different due to Trump being president?

I want to answer this with complete honesty.  But for starters, Trump being President has nothing to do with my response.

* I would assume with 80% certainty that it's a terrorist hoax.
* I would call my wife and check with co-workers to see if they received the message.
* I would jump on to news sites, as they would certainly be knowledgeable of a government sent alert.
* If they can't identify the origin of the message, then I am even more convinced that it is a hoax.
* As more time passes with no updates (say 15 minutes), I'm certain it's a hoax.

But then, Hawaii is full of idiots.

And America is full of idiots that want to blame Trump.

I would assume, with significant certainty, that it was a mistake hoax.  The current President of the US wouldn't be a factor in any way.  The leader of N. Korea would definitely be a factor.

My response would probably identical as the two responses above....regardless of who is the POTUS.
My first reaction would be to take it as a serious threat until proven otherwise.
It's absurd to think that my response to an official warning from a governmental agency would depend on who happens to be president at the time.

Is this like being kinda pregnant?

* I would assume with 80% certainty...

Here's the "common sense" way to look at it.  Given Trump's taunts, ridicule, provocations, etc, you either think North Korea is less likely to launch a first-strike, equally likely to launch a first-strike, or more likely to launch a first-strike.

I am confident that if Americans were polled on this topic, that most (rightly or wrongly) would say that he is more likely to launch than he otherwise would have been under a Rubio or Clinton presidency.  Now it doesn't surprise me that most here will disagree, given how far outside the mainstream their politics tend to be.

Yup - utterly lacking in nuance and ignoring my central point.

My first reaction would be to take it as a serious threat until proven otherwise.

Same here.

It's absurd to think that my response to an official warning from a governmental agency would depend on who happens to be president at the time.

That's not what I said.

There would be some skepticism.  Is this really happening?  If you're capable of nuanced thought, you'll admit that there are gradations of buy-in, skepticism and/or belief.  If your president has been taunting, insulting, ridiculing, and provoking a known mad-man, then you are more inclined toward pessimism if you have any common sense (as you put it).

So.....given your vague response I'm assuming that if there were a statewide warning that intercontinental ballistic missiles aimed at your area ( followed by the warning that "this is not a drill")you would ignore the warning since Trump was president?
Or maybe take a poll so see what others thought?
Just curious.

Of course it's absurd.  Anyone with any intelligence knows that.  But absurd or otherwise, any opportunity to throw Trump propaganda out to the general public will not be overlooked by the Democrats.

We have reached a point where the American public has to weigh and consider what's real news.  We are being hit with everything whether true or false.  In conjunction with this, we are being programmed by secular culture to consume black and call it white.  The discernment of the American public is being diminished day by day.  Our basic intellect is being hijacked by propagated groupthink.

This type programming works well in American culture because we are all a bunch of insecure sheep that want to be loved and accepted by others.  We are obsessed with it.

GOD help us.

What part was vague - happy to clear it up for you.

I'm assuming that if there were a statewide warning that intercontinental ballistic missiles aimed at your area (followed by the warning that "this is not a drill")

Aimed?  Or incoming?

you would ignore the warning since Trump was president?

Why would I do that?

Or maybe take a poll so see what others thought?

President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

Jumping into gutters and digging holes, etc...  I don't know about that.  What are the chance of being buried alive by rubble?

I saw in Hawaii a shot of kids being lowered into a gutter (sewer trap).  So what does this accomplish, other than to bury the kid alive if the concrete gives way?

The warning said:

I don't know exactly.  I would greet it wish some degree of gravity and skepticism.  Given Trump's antics over the past year, like most rationally objective people, I would be more inclined to take the threat seriously.

Would you ignore since Trump was president?

Obviously not - as I've said in about 5 posts now, I'd take them more seriously

Don't tell me you're having trouble comprehending my posts, yet again.

Your response is very clear.
What's not clear is why you attempted to link Trump the response in Hawaii to the warning in an earlier thread.
Why even mention Trump when he had nothing to do with the warning or response?
You said you would take the threat seriously even with Trump being POTUS.
Are you trying to say you would have taken the threat "more seriously" if he weren't. :57:
