I hope Ragey watches the video, I know how much he says he hates New Yorkers.

My biggest disappointment with Obama's presidency was his dishonesty about Islam, but if you want to make this a partisan thread, then you might want to include a few cartoons about the Republicans repeatedly denying first responders their medical benefits.

I cried a few times the week of 9/11/01.  My strange first thought as I watched the tragedy unfolding in front of me was that I'm glad my mother didn't live to see this, which was such an unthinkable sentiment for me.

I don’t hate New Yorkers. A majority of them are liberals and they’re rude as hell but I DO NOT hate them. They just need to be taken behind the wood shed and taught some manners. With that said, I’d pick up a weapon and defend them against our enemies.

I was living in San Diego when 9-11 happened...Being 3 hours behind the actual event time has always bothered me.....

I did not find out about what happened, until I was channel hopping trying to see what else was on, after watching several "Band of Brother" shows I had recorded....

I turned on CNN, which I often did in those days, and saw the horror that was happening to all of us that morning.....I actually thought it was some kind of previews for an upcoming movie...It did not seem real....

When I finally got to my office, I told my Muslim secretary things were going to be rough around the office for awhile.....By this time I had heard rumors on the radio and television, of what group of people had done this awful thing....

As the days passed, my secretary had to have me walk her to the bathroom because women in our building were making very ugly comments to her....She did not wear the head covering, but everyone knew her, knew she was from Iran...

I heard from her a few months ago...She is now married to a white guy and has a child now around 12 years old.....Time has moved on, but that day will never be forgotten......

I was at home and my wife called from work and told me of the first plane. I turned on the tube right before the 2nd plane hit.
It was obvious we were under attack when you watched it fly into the building.
Security at the facilities in Oak Ridge and other near by installations changed immediately.
Life there was never the same afterwards
Tried to find a link to a story about Ali Baba's Deli in Knoxville and the after math of 9-11.

i don't know if this will mean anything to anyone here.  it's my story.

i'd already pulled my time in the Corps.  I had just left Tobacconist business i'd started and built to 3 locations and a wholesale operation.  i was working for a wine company peddling wine to stores from boutiques to wal-marts, and was managing a bar at night.

my old unit who i still followed as a bunch of my buddies were still there had some work in Africa- the embassy bombings.. but all in all it had quietened down a lot since i'd left.  they were complacent, too.

i was out on a sales call heading to a town some distance from home and listening to the radio when the first plane hit... before i was at the location the second one hit.  i went into the shop and nobody was there- doors open, lights on- they were expecting me, but nobody was to be found.  i heard something from the back so went back there to find every single employee there huddled around a 13" tv.. i crowded in.  dumbstruck.

......

within a day i'm on the phone.  most my buddies were already enroute to somewhere in indian country.

i was never any good at selling shit or dealing with customers.. but i was pretty good at what i did in the Corps.. i briefly considered re-upping.  instead i went the private defense contract route.  i did that up until this past May.

most folks joined the service from a sense of duty and intent to get a head start from circumstances they need a head start.  most of them don't expect they'll step in the way of danger.  there was a kid at the bar i managed who had floundered around several years after high school, and who i spoke with regularly about joining the service. he did maybe three months before those planes struck and was awaiting basic training.  he was to be a truck driver.  he and i talked and the night before he left.. he said "i've got nothing to worry about, i'm just a truck driver... i looked him dead in the eye and told him "there is no shame in taking cover" and he said again "i'm just going to drive trucks"... he drove trucks for about three months into his 12 month deployment in Iraq- and that after a entire deployment in Afghanistan. he got blown up.

the best man i've ever known died in the seize of Baghdad.  He received a Silver Star, but it will likely be upgraded.  he returned to rescue a squad that was trapped- in a thin skin hummer... those who survived said it was the most fierce firefight you can imagine- that nothing from movies could prepare them for that.  they said it looked like lasers from every rooftop and window- tracers on warsaw pact belts are every fourth round... that should give you an idea.  when he was hit and the radioman transmitted he was dead there was a full 30 seconds of dead silence- nobody could grasp that man had died.  it also meant, if he can? any of us can... his name was GunnerySgt Jeffery Bohr.  he was from Iowa.  he left a wife behind, and a lot of promise.

a guy i served with who had chosen the Corps so as to pay for graduate school (he already had a degree) did just that.  when he got out he went to med school (he was already a paramedic), and he had both fixed wing and helicopter certs/license.  he was a hot commodity in 'my' world of private defense contracting.  the first tour he did was with professionals- former Special Ops or Special Forces- they did their job well.  on his second tour, the pool of selection had dwindled and these groups were spreading the 'professionals' around with groups of former deputies, wanna be ninjas, clowns who read soldier of fortune and owned tactical gear and figured themselves qualified.. he ended up a team leader in a group of those types with only a handful of 'professionals' present.  he hated it- his last email was something to the effect "these cowboys are going to get me killed.. they're reckless and dangerous to themselves and everyone nearby- i can't wait to finish this tour and get home.  i'm never doing another".  he was killed in an IED initiated ambush... nobody knows if the blast got him or if it was the small arms.  it took a few days to recover him.  his name was Todd Vinnette.

I could go on and on, and out of respect and regard for each i likely should... but i'll spare you and take a Gentleman Jack on ice instead and just think about them a while.

all of this... because of some friggin' prick in a cave in Afghanistan makes promise of 72 virgins to those he can manipulate- and using the ideology of Islam to do so, which professes the coming of the 13th Mahdi- of which that cock sucker wanted that title... whomever is given that title will be the most powerful man ever to live short of Christ.  the antichrist is said to be subservient to the Mahdi. these islamic shitbirds who initiate these acts all simply want that power- they could care less what they think required to get it.  picking a fight with the US is a good way to show their followers "See!!! I told you they were coming after us!!" ... otherwise, those effers would keep to themselves in their desert homes.   i've known a lot of folks not here anymore because of the happenings of this day 18 years ago.  A lot of innocence was lost both in life in those structures and in the reality that we aren't safe here.

some are opposed to the wars we've fought.

we had to fight them now (then), else we simply kicked the can down the road for our children to fight.  turns out the handling of that war by both Bush and Obama has caused us to gain nothing but loss of life from those wars.  that is a friggin' shame.  those men who fought in Falluhjah... those in any of a collection of forward fire bases... I recall, as if a haunting, flying over northwest Iraq /southeast syria and seeing these villages appear and disappear under us and that line from the eagles Doolin Dalton, "and the towns laid out across the dusty plains, like graveyards filled with tombstones just waiting for the names"  i guess you'd have had to be there to understand that... but it haunts me.

part of me finds it difficult to believe it's been 18 years since i was selling wine and slinging beers down the bar... another seems like it was yesterday.

this is what hate does.

A Anthropologist I know made a interesting post today . Let me share it.

Some Muslims believe that the Houris mentioned in the Quran are buxom maidens to be enjoyed by martyrs in the afterlife. In a note to his fellow hijackers, September 11 ringleader Muhammad Atta reminded them of their impending "marriage in Paradise" to the 72 virgins. Islamic extremists refer to suicide bombing as a "wedding to the black-eyed in eternal Paradise." The German scholar Christoph Luxenberg says the "houris" with "swelling breasts" refers instead to "white raisins" and juicy fruits. (See Newsweek article "Challenging the Quran" on July 28, 2003.) Dr. Maher Hathout challenges the misconception, arguing that the Arabic refers to "beings of distinction." The Houris mentioned in the Quran are called "Horites" [Horim] in the Bible. They are described as the "mighty men" of old, heroes, deified rulers, and men of great wisdom. The Quranic expression "the "lap of the Houris" appears to be equivalent to the "bosom of Abraham" in the Hebrew Scriptures. Abraham was a Horite Hebrew ruler.
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

The perpetrators of 9/11 weren't "cowards, or "evil," nor were they "terrorists."  There was no political motive.  They weren't 19 deranged, suicidal sociopaths.  They were just young men following their (insidious) religious doctrine.  They were just wrong (or so I believe).
