The economy, which looked to be perhaps sagging in August, now looks pretty "OK".  The chances of a recession saving the Dems drop with every passing day we don't get more Bad News on the economic front.  I won't be surprised if Trump delays a China deal until say August and then signs one.  If the impeachment trial is over in say February, some will wonder why we spent so much effort on that given it had zero chance of removal from office.

President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

If Warren wins (as I expect now), the platform is "free stuff" and "no middle class tax increases".  I'm really hard pressed to see how that sells outside CA/NY.  If the economy hangs in there, which seems fairly likely now, and if Trump doesn't make too many unnecessary alienating comments, I just don't see how he loses frankly.  "We" don't turn out second termers often at all, and never with a good economy (or not in ages).

Warren could win the popular vote again and lose the midwest.  Her spending plans are ridiculous, truly, and her tax plans are bogus, and it's pretty easy to see that.  I don't think the country wants a "major transformation" when the economy is doing well.  If we hit a 2008/9 recession, maybe so.

If Warren were to win, at least the credible media could stop looking for presidential malfeasance and start reporting on something else.    They had an 8-year break during Obama's 2 terms.

Do you mean credible or gullible?

If a bull frog had wings he would not bust his ass every time he jumped

They would have to be rather large wings for most bullfrogs.

Another factor is IF the Democratic race for the nomination is prolonged.  There now appear to be 4 candidates in position to "win" Iowa.  Whoever wins will get a boost (the media will see to that) even if the win is narrow.

Might this be a decision made at the convention with trading of horses?  Yup.  Possibly.  Mayor Pete could benefit from the impeachment trial.

Victor Davis Hanson:

Like it or not, 2020 is going to be a plebiscite on an American version of Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty-Four. One side advocates a complete transformation not just of the American present but of the past as well. The Left is quite eager to change our very vocabulary and monitor our private behavior to ensure we are not just guilty of incorrect behavior but thought as well.

The other side believes America is far better than the alternative, that it never had to be perfect to be good, and that, all and all, its flawed past is a story of a moral nation’s constant struggle for moral improvement.

One side will say, “Just give us more power and we will create heaven on earth.” The other says “Why would anyone wish to take their road to an Orwellian nightmare?” The 2020 election is that simple.
