Willie Taggart is gone at FSU

There was an $18 or $19M  buyout donors paid; it is uneconomical. If they hire someone other than Urban Meyer, or perhaps Bobby Stoops there will be another buyout. Any ideas who will be the next coach of FSU?

Not from me other than Fickell perhaps, and that would be a risk obviously.  I don't know that they can hire a "home run".

I see no reason for Meyer to be interested.  He might at USC, but I doubt that one as well.

I think a coach should get 3 years minimum baring cause.

I mostly agree. I would guess the buyout would be lower in Year 3, too.

There are many factors. Attendance at FSU has tanked. Still, I would have given it one more year. But, if you are A.D. and the donors come calling, they may be calling for your hide, too.

I graduated from Iowa and FSU. Unless there is a crisis of morality involving a sports program it seems that the university president at Iowa is focused on the academics, not athletics.

This article about FSU asking boosters to contribute more to the sports/football program which honestly is on account of the buyout of Willie Taggart's contract, is a request coming from the university president. https://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/college/fsu/football/2019/11/21/fsu-florida-state-football-coach-asks-boosters-increase-donations-football-renaissance/4263564002/ As an alumnus of FSU I am not comfortable with this. The university president's focus should be on improving academics and student life on campus, not on athletic greatness, where he can contribute, but should the president be the point of the spear? No. The president's fundraising pursuit is for the university as an educational institution, not at the point of the spear for its athletic department. Misplaced priorities.

Mike Norvell is in at FSU with a contract at $3.75M for six years. Seems a bit low for coaching at the P-5 FBS level. It is a good hire.

Willie Taggart should have been given another year. I think he would have panned out, but obviously he did not do as well as could be expected.

Given that athletics is almost entirely separated from academics, I think a University can focus on both, if it chooses.  Stanford wins that all sports cup every year.

Of course they benefit from a large endowment also.  The problem arises when "special courses" are contrived to keep athletes eligible, but that doesn't impact most students.  UNC got caught doing this, and apparently it wasn't illegal, or something.
