Second team QB Tate Rodemaker, FSU's expected starter at QB for the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, practiced right up until the Christmas break and then announced he was entering the transfer portal, and electing to not play in the Orange Bowl. Players can enter the transfer portal and play for their existing team in the bowl game.
Rodemaker must think playing in the bowl game will negatively affect his chances in the transfer portal.
Having no confidence in one's ability to play well against Georgia in the Orange Bowl should have a more negative effect on one's ability to secure a new home in the portal. -- Just my 5opinion for what little it is worth.

The game was a farce.
Tate Rodemaker correctly calculated FSU had no chance after the disappearance of so many FSU players from the bowl game roster.  Ultimately, he demoted himself to Southern Miss.
